it's been awhile since I've last felt so proud of being greek, but seeing hundred thousands or even million people in greece and even around the world filling the streets and protesting, gave me some hope again.

The Trainee Trio's visit on The Island Of Sodor took an unwelcome turn of events after a lazy signalman's negligence led poor Brewster to a head-on collision with Thomas The Tank Engine. Although Thomas' coaches Annie and Clarabel were thankfully empty, the damage done was quite horrendous. This will be an awkward story to tell Wilson and Koko once they're back on the rails...

Last year I came across one of CalleyFan's old tweets of his HO scale layout and I just had to draw this scene! XD

People mocked me and called me paranoid when I said stuff like this was going to start happening all the time: Makes you wonder if that airplane/heli crash outside Washington DC this evening had some covid brain fog to blame.

May 22nd 1915, was a tragic day for Scotland when 227 people are killed and 246 more injured in a rail crash at Quintinshill, near Gretna Green.
Just before 7am, on the outskirts of Gretna Green, railway signalmen made a fatal error of judgement. A local train travelling north had been ordered to stop at the junction, but found itself now lying in the path of a southbound troop train carrying soldiers from the 7th Royal Scots.
Carrying 500 men, the troop train approached the junction at high speed and crashed into the stationary passenger service. Little more than a minute later, another passenger service travelling northbound collided with the smouldering wreckage of the first two trains.
Scattered around the junction, the mangled wrecks quickly caught fire, fuelled by the gas-based lighting system used on board the troop train.
Frantic efforts to rescue survivors began immediately after the crash, with stunned survivors and locals working to save passengers still trapped in the smouldering wreckage as the fire spread.
Survivor accounts of the rescue operation are particularly harrowing. In 1985, Peter Stoddard, a survivor of the incident, told a reporter for The Guardian that officers were “shooting men trapped in the burning wreckage” that could not be saved.
Over 220 people were killed in the Quintinshill disaster and hundreds more were injured. The exact number of deaths still remains unknown, as some bodies were never recovered due to the scale and intensity of the fire.
The majority of those killed in the Quintinshill rail disaster were men of the Royal Scots, which recorded 216 deaths. Only 83 of the bodies were ever identified.
Notably, this battalion was comprised largely of men from the Leith, Musselburgh and Portobello areas.
Raised during the early days of the First World War and known as ‘Leith’s Own’, the 7th had spent time training near Falkirk in the days preceding the disaster. Boarding that fateful train, the battalion was due to travel to Liverpool and would have eventually found itself fighting in Gallipoli.
In the wake of the disaster, the bodies of the Royal Scots soldiers were brought back to Leith and placed in the battalion drill hall, located on Dalmeny Street.
While some of the soldiers were buried in private ceremonies, 107 men were buried with full military honours at Rosebank cemetery in Pilrig.
Thousands of locals lined the streets of Leith to watch the funeral procession, the route of which was lined by more than 3,000 men of the 15th and 16th Royal Scots battalions.
An inquiry into the cause of the crash ruled that a number of procedural failings had contributed to the incident. In particular, the inquiry attributed much of the blame to two signalmen on duty at Quintinshill that morning.
Both were charged with manslaughter and convicted of culpable homicide following a trial in Scotland. They were later released in 1916.

HELP! EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! PLEASE JUST 5 MINUTES ARE ENOUGH FOR THE BETTER OF MY COUNTRY! SIGN THIS PETITION AND SHARE IT WITH AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN!
Tumblr media
Like today, a year ago, in Tempi, nearby where I live, two trains crashed. They were moving in the same road, opposite to one another for 12 minutes and nobody knew about it, until the two trains crashed...
57 people died, most of them being students, around 18-25 years old.
They said it was the station master's fault, he didn't realise that he put the trains in the same rail. But they are hiding the truth...
Our trains were bought from Switzerland, and those trains were used by the Swiss for almost 2 months and they were about to be destroyed, because they were considered to be a danger for everyone.
Our trains, for almost 24 years are moving around the country manually. No train has a GPS system. The systems were bought by the Greek government in 1999 and till today, 2024 they have not been installed....
The railways do not have signal lights, radar, monitoring center and station masters....
We Greeks move like this, for about 20 years....
Until 28 of February 2023, that this terrible train crash happened....
Today, a year later, our politicians lie to us, make empty promises and reassure us that everything is under control. The truth is that nothing is under control. A year later they have done nothing...
The railways are still malfunctioning, no GPS, no monitoring centers and no lights....
And the only one who payed for it was the station master, who did a fatal mistake, but he was just the front person that behind him hid the politicians, that do not take any responsibilities...
The next day after the train crash, the minister of the Ministry of Transportations quit his place! Can you believe it?
The European Union has condemned Greece for ignoring the laws and pointed out the greed of our Prime Minister, which hasn't stated anything of that matter for over a year....
Greeks are devastated! No one hears us, the government is killing us!
Greeks want our politicians to take responsibility. It is in our hands to do it, but we also need help.
Please, spend 5 minutes signing this petition.
Signing this states that you want a constitutional change, which will lift over the political immunity that protect the politicians!
Your help is so much needed. The families of those people suffer and want justice for their children!
PLEASE! WE NEED YOUR HELP, WE CAN'T LIVE LIKE THIS!
Sign this petition please! You can chose to ignore the tiping fees. It is only fair that they pay for what they did!
Pray for those 57 lost souls!

Pokemon Reborn Chapter 1: Reborn, the City of Ruin
Tumblr media
Another one for Reborn City, huh? They sure have been pushing that new league. Let's see... Which one of these was it?
Tumblr media
We got our trainer select screen! We get to pick between six trainers, whose canon names are Vero, Alice, Kuro, Lucia, Ari, and Decibel. Regardless of who we pick, the game lets us pick our gender separately. This means you can play through the game as Alice as a boy, Kuro as a girl, or Vero as nonbinary. This is amazing and I need more fan games to do this immediately.
So I promise that I'm not gonna comment on each and every little thing with several paragraphs for the sake of not destroying the pacing, but I'll say now that I like this intro sequence. It's super quick and to the point. I like the absence of music at this point rather than any cheery tune playing in the background- it really helps set the mood. The region we're going to isn't exactly in the best shape right now and the league is a mess. Our introduction also isn't through a professor or an important figurehead like in the main games, it's through an unseen, unnamed NPC, talking to us very casually, almost dismissively.
The dialogue also implies that several trainers have signed up. We can infer from how difficult the gyms are and the lack of other gym challengers besides us and our rivals that trainers tend to drop out of the league fairly early on. All in all, it makes sense that there's not a ton of fanfare here. Before we've even picked our character, there's some smart storytelling here.
As for who I'm going with... well. I want to have some fun on this playthrough. Mostly to prove I'm not some guy who's just gonna go "oh this game is edgy and that's bad." I like edge! Edge can be fun! So, quick side tangent:
Tumblr media
This is Flamberge. They kill people.
I'm not gonna get into their whole backstory because this is not the place for it, but the gist is that Flamberge is a skilled assassin that's put up a good reputation underground. They initially started killing out of revenge, but felt listless and "ruined" after getting it, so they dug their hole deeper by killing for money instead of their own gains.
They're also Valerie's bio parent and they have no idea she exists because they were arrested by Marlow and Team Spark and then escaped into an Ultra Wormhole. So that's fun! (NOTE: some of this is subject to change, not as happy with them right now)
See, I like to have fun with Pokemon playthroughs and name my Pokemon after my OCs. So for this game, I figured choosing Oshawott and naming it Flamberge would be perfect.
There's just one problem. This game only has Pokemon up to gen 7. So Hisuian Samurott is not an option, and it's gonna bother me if I evolve it into a Unovan one. Yes, I do take this stupidly seriously.
So I was sad for a second but was going to pick out a different name. And then it hit me. Canonically, they go through an ultra wormhole and explore another dimension for several years.
... Which means that they're prime isekai bait.
Tumblr media
GET REVERSE PMD'D, IDIOT!!!
Also no this isn't actually canon to my own fanfiction. I'm just playing with my toys. I am here to have fun, I swear. Back to it.
"There, all set. Just between you, me, and the ol' battered fence post, I hear Reborn City's kind of a dump. Why anyone would wanna go there is beyond me. And yet, buncha you ambitious Trainer-type folk have been headin' out in droves. But off you go now. Train's leaving any minute."
Tumblr media
The game properly starts off on the train passing through a desert, almost at our destination. Hi Absol, I'm sure you're here simply for scenery and nothing more.
???: "Okay, thank you very much! I'll see you when we get into the city."
Tumblr media
We sit in one of the cars with the unselected trainers and a white haired woman who wants to introduce herself!
Your turn now; sorry for the wait. My name's Ame, the manager of the Reborn League.
Ame is Amethyst, this game's main dev.
You were also looking to sign up for it, right? It would be great if so! We're finally just getting things off the ground again. Truth is, after the incident a few years ago, the whole region was almost completely abandoned... even by the Pokemon.
Tumblr media
It might not be an ideal place, but our Gym Leaders are like nothing you've ever seen before, and I think you'll find Reborn to be a region like no other, too! I'm coming back from some business out of town, so I figured I may as well introduce myself early and get a head start on everyone's registration. Could I see your boarding ticket, please?
I imagine that Flamberge is having one of the biggest "what the fuck" moments of their life. Humans are extinct in their timeline, and now they're one of them, and in a train car full of other ones.
Hm... Flamberge. I guess it's that time already, huh?
She moves on before she elaborates on that. This is where she asks for QoL passwords, and I've already said what mine are, but I haven't put in anything that'll affect the opponent's Pokemon or the Pokemon available to us, sans getting Aevian Misdreavus and Dratini earlier than usual. Just for fun.
We're almost at Grandview Station, so after we disembark, just follow me to the Grand Hall. There, I'll give you a starter Pokemon to really kick off your adventure in Reborn. Sound good? Then if you'll-
Tumblr media
A ghost appears behind Flamberge, but vanishes before they turn around.
AME: Something's not right... Shouldn't we be decelerating already?
Tumblr media
Oh damn! The train's crashed and Ame's just saved Flamberge by the skin of their teeth!
The screen stays black until Ame shakes Flamberge awake.
Tumblr media
That train exploded right as we pulled into the station. I'm- I'm just glad I could get us out of there in time, but everyone else- Well... there's no use thinking about that now.
All of the unselected trainers die if you don't pick them. Dear lord, we're starting this off with a bang, aren't we?
God, the tone is so striking. The custom music for Peridot Ward, the area we're in, is a melancholic drone lamenting the city's fallen state. The water is polluted, there's broken glass and rubble everywhere. We've just had a near death experience. It's a heavy way to start the game, but it really does set the tone for the story perfectly-
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
... Oh.
This game is in-authentically edgy, huh. The type to undercut its own serious moments with "Random LOL XD" humor.
"Oh, it's just a quick little funny bit to lighten the mood-" No, it keeps going.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What a cool character, I'm enthralled with her already. /S
Well. I guess I was still right about the tone being set. So, I've got a lot of thoughts on how Reborn handles "mature" topics that I'll touch on as we go. But this moment here is a good example of why I feel Reborn fumbles that angle.
Why couldn't we wait until a bit later to lighten the mood with a joke? It's barely been a minute! People are dead! You can't immediately follow that up with "Teehee, oh Julia, you silly scamp and your random explosions! You're so quirky! Lmao read the room, Julia!"
Man, and the setup was so interesting, too! This would've been a good opener if they didn't shove in an "LOL So Random XD" moment to completely undercut the tension.
Not that saying you can't have comedy in your mature game, but timing is key. We could've waited on this #quirky intro for Julia. Like, in a game that's actually mature, the event would hang over the characters. But because of this joke, the crash already has less of an impact on me. If the game thinks it's not a huge deal to the point it can already make jokes about it, then why should I?
It's not even funny, it's just.... weird. Julia looks more like an asshole here than anything. And she's supposed to be the nice one in her friend group.
It doesn't help that once we're out of Peridot Ward, the crash isn't really brought up all too often. MC doesn't seem to have much trauma from it, none of the other main characters seem too affected, and we're already making jokes about it. Man.
Okay. Enough about that, let's get back to the plot.
AME: Whoever was behind it could still be monitoring from nearby. I'll have the perimeter locked down. We may yet catch them. I'm going ahead, Flamberge. There's another trainer who was meant to register with you at the same time, so find her and then come see me. I'll be in the Grand Hall, just down this road. You can't miss it. And don't you worry about all this. I'll have it completely taken care of.
For the sake of my own sanity, I'm not gonna detail every single little piece of dialogue in this LP if I can summarize without botching details. Julia asks if we're doing the Reborn League, and we get a point with her for saying yes, she says she's the electric gym leader, and we walk off to get our starter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some charming NPCs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At least this guy gets it.
We head over to the Grand Hall.
Tumblr media
I'm Victoria. It's nice to meet you, but is everything okay? I heard what happened at the station... Well, you're here, so I guess you're all right. Let's go ahead and get registered.
Victoria's nice. I'm sorta neutral on her as a character, but I think that's just my own taste. She has a good arc.
Again though... while I like that she tries to comfort MC, it's weird that the characters are just brushing the attack off so quickly. Why not "Hey, maybe getting your starter will cheer you up?" or something? I dunno.
Tumblr media
There's no sign of any suspect yet, but I've got several officers out searching the area.
Ame explains further that the city is in lockdown and the wards are gated until further notice, so we're stuck in Peridot Ward for now. That's okay, it's a bigger area and we've got plenty of stuff to do! Like get our starter, where we can pick from all 21 starters up to gen 7. Victoria lets us go first.
Do I even need to say who Flamberge's starter will be? Yeah, I'm just making the electric gym harder for myself, but c'mon... it's right there.
Tumblr media
Apparently I forgot to linger on the nature page in the footage -_- Raine has Torrent and a Jolly nature! Gonna make them a physical attacker. I reset to get semi decent IVs.
Flamberge lore time!!! Raine was their name before they became an assassin. (NOT their deadname, btw. That is a different name altogether) Raine the Dewott was an outgoing sort who loved their family and their rescue team. They always gave Pokemon a second chance when they were hurt, and wanted to make the world a better place. Had they evolved, they'd have become a Unovan Samurott and fought honorable to uphold their parents' legacy.
Flamberge doesn't consider themself the same person as Raine anymore. They're too rotten to be called that anymore. But, when they stare at the Oshawott in the starter's room for too long, Ame prompts them to catch it, and so they do, and they name it Raine, because all they can think about was how sweet the Oshawott looks.
... This "trainer" business will take a lot of getting used to, Flamberge doesn't quite want to put Raine in it's ball. Despite the Oshawott's comfort around it, the idea of being in one made Flamberge uncomfortable. But even still, watching the Oshawott snuggle it's scalchop makes Flamberge feel nostalgic, and their pockets feel empty.

New Year’s Eve, the last day of the year. As we all know, it is the holiday when people get together with families and friends, share resolutions, and light fireworks to bring in the new year. But 80 years ago, this would not be the case out on the Great Salt Lake in Utah for a deadly train crash took place on that day.
In the early morning hours of New Year’s Eve December 31st 1944, two trains operating as No. 21, the Westbound Pacific Limited, were preparing to proceed onward to San Francisco with the First 21, the 18-car passenger train, running ahead of the Second 21, the 20-car mail-express train. The Pacific Limited normally ran as a long singular train but it was split in two on this occasion. The First 21 was being pulled by Southern Pacific 4425, a GS-3 Class 4-8-4 “Northern” Type locomotive, while the Second 21 was being pulled by Southern Pacific 4361, an MT-4 class 4-8-2 “Mountain” Type locomotive. Running 38 minutes late, the First 21 departed from Ogden, Utah at 4:38 AM while the second 21 departed at 4:50 AM 12 minutes later.
Things wouldn’t go according to plan however because 17 miles west of Ogden at Bagley along the Lucin Cutoff, a stalled freight train was dealing with a hotbox which would force the two trains to slow down and come to a stop. The First 21 would slow down to 8 mph until stopping when the flagman of the freight train would give the signal. Meanwhile, the Second 21 was speeding at 50 mph in hopes of making up for lost time.
Although engineer James Mcdonald of the Second 21 applied the brakes upon noticing the First 21, it was too late. At 5:14 AM, the Second 21 slammed into the back of the First 21. The last several cars of the First 21 were telescoped into each other while the first few cars of the Second 21 piled into No. 4361 crushing the locomotive’s tender with some sliding into the water and mud.
48 people had died while 81 people were injured with 2 more later dying in the hospital thus bumping the death toll up to 50. Among those who had died were 35 military personnel that were returning home after serving in the Second World War, the death toll also included James McDonald and the flagman of the First 21. Two military hospital cars of the First 21 would be used to take care of the injured passengers until rescue trains from Ogden would arrive at the scene.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the main cause of the wreck was failure to properly control the speed of the Second 21 in accordance with signal indications. While the engineer did apply the brakes, it was said that he “died” due to sudden shock or heart failure. Another factor that caused this wreck was heavy fog which resulted in the fireman of the Second 21 to miss the first stop signal before seeing the second stop signal.
Those who were injured were taken to nearby hospitals such as the Bushnell General Military Hospital in Brigham City. Although there is currently no further information regarding what happened to No. 4361 after the wreck, the locomotive alongside the last few cars of the First 21 and the first few cars of the Second 21 were probably scrapped due to being severely damaged. As for No. 4425, the locomotive was left unharmed and would continue to serve the Southern Pacific until being retired on May 14th, 1956 and later scrapped on July 13th of that year in Los Angeles. None of the 14 GS-3s nor any of the railroad’s 4-8-2s were set aside for preservation when the Southern Pacific ended revenue steam operations in January 1957, although a driving wheel from No. 4422 was salvaged and is at the Railgaints Train Museum in Pomona, California.
The Pacific Limited would continue to run until October 1st, 1947. As for the Southern Pacific, it would continue to use the Lucin Cutoff until 1996 when the railroad became part of the Union Pacific whose trains still continue to use the Lucin Cutoff to this day. It has been 80 years since this wreck occurred and it still holds the title of being Utah’s worst train wreck but rear-end collisions between trains still unfortunately have occurred over the following years and of course before then.
This was made in honor of those who lost their lives and survived this train wreck, I wish you all a Happy New Year.

On 10th December 1937 disaster struck at Castlecary train station on the Edinburgh-Glasgow line.
The Castlecary rail disaster cost 35 people their lives in a freezing snowstorm on a December Friday night in 1937.
Another 179 were hurt in the tragedy when an Edinburgh to Glasgow express ploughed into a stationary train just west of Castlecary village. An inquiry found a signalling error led the driver of the express to believe the line was clear.
The crash happened in the evening of 10 December 1937 as the express from Edinburgh Waverley was travelling at high speed in a blizzard. Both the express and the other train, from Dundee, were bound for Glasgow's Queen Street Station.
The Dundee train was running late and had stopped at signals outside Castlecary Station when the express train rammed into the stationary carriages. An investigation after the incident found a signaller error was to blame, with driver error and challenging weather conditions contributing factors.
For years the disaster was remembered by the local people in Castlecary with a makeshift memorial by the side of the railway, a permanent memorial was created in 2007.
An eight-year-old girl was counted as missing. Poignantly some locals swore to seeing the ghost of the girl for many years on the station platform.....

24 People Perished In A Train Derailment Caused By Unknown Saboteurs
The City of San Francisco luxury train was running 30 minutes behind schedule the night of August 12, 1939. To make up for lost time, engineer Ed Hecox pushed the state-of-the-art streamliner to 90 miles per hour while traveling through the Nevada desert. Hecox knew the area well - he had been transporting travelers from Chicago to Oakland and back since he was a stagecoach driver in the 1880s.
The train was at top speed as it approached bridge #4 over the Humboldt River Gorge. Just before the train crossed the overpass, Hecox noticed a tumbleweed on the tracks. The conductor immediately slammed on the brakes, but it was too late. As the momentum from the engines propelled the derailed front cars forward over the bridge, five other cars decoupled and plunged into the riverbed below.
Twenty-four people perished from the impact, and severely injured passengers had to crawl over dismembered body parts in the dark night to seek help. One of the passengers was a doctor, who helped triage and stabilize as many victims as possible. Hecox ran for help, but the next town was miles away. When he finally reached Harney, he alerted authorities and gathered volunteers. The injured lit portions of the train on fire to provide visibility as they awaited Hecox's return. All 170 passengers suffered injuries, and the first rescue train didn't arrive until the following day.
Upon investigation, authorities found that someone had tampered with a 30-foot section of tracks near the bridge. Its spikes had been pulled out, and the track was bent inward. Additionally, the tumbleweed had been tied to the damaged railing to camouflage the saboteurs' work.
Investigators never caught the perpetrators, and the motive behind the sabotage remains a mystery. Officials estimated the job would've taken more than 90 pounds of tools and several hours to complete - an impossible feat for one person. But instead of focusing on suspects with ties to the railroad or its passengers, investigators focused on transient men in the area made homeless from the Great Depression. After numerous interviews, they found that none of the local homeless men could've been responsible for the incident. Volunteers and looters looking for souvenirs the night of the crash had destroyed any clues that may have led to catching any plausible suspects. When the US entered WWII a few years later, officials abandoned the investigation.
